Battle Snails
The Idea
I’ve always wanted to make a family-friendly shooter. Something you could play with your kids, your friends, anyone. No blood. No dark tone. Just pure, chaotic, laugh-out-loud fun.
The problem with most shooters? They take themselves too seriously.
So we asked a simple question: what if the tanks were snails?
That’s it. That’s the idea. Snails with shells that double as tanks. Waddling around a colorful backyard. Climbing walls. Hanging upside down. Shooting each other. It’s absurd. It’s funny. And somehow it works perfectly.
The Partnership
This game brought two studios together.
RocketSnail — that’s us. Builder of online worlds since 1999. Creator of Club Penguin. Experimenters. Delight-seekers.
SkyVu — led by Ben Vu. Creators of Battle Bears, one of the first 3D multiplayer shooters on mobile, with over 30 million downloads. Ben’s team knows how to build action games that feel great to play.
Two studios. Two different strengths. One very strange game about warring snails.
It’s been one of the most fun collaborations I’ve ever been part of.
Seven Years of Experiments
We didn’t get here overnight.
The original concept — then called Epic Snails — started back in 2017. We built prototypes. We experimented with free-to-play systems, subscriptions, gacha, storefronts. We tried a lot of things. We learned a lot of things.
What we kept coming back to was the core feeling. Climbing up a wall. Hanging upside down from a ceiling. Lining up a shot on an enemy snail dangling below you. That moment of chaos and laughter when it all clicks.
Everything else was noise.
Starting Fresh
In early 2026, we made a decision: stop maintaining the old game and build something new from the ground up.
We threw out the free-to-play complexity. We rebuilt the entire codebase. Full controller support. Steam Deck. The new Steam Machine. A new map, with more coming. Customization items rolling out over time.
And we switched to a simple premium model. You pay once. You play. No energy timers. No paywalls. No worrying about whether the monetization is fun or fair.
Just the game.
That freed us up to focus entirely on what matters: making every battle feel epic. Earning the name.
How It Plays
You create a snail. You join a battle. And then the normal rules of tank games go out the window.
Move anywhere. Climb walls. Hang upside down. Defy gravity. The backyard becomes a three-dimensional battlefield where every surface is fair game.
Team up with friends and take on enemy squads. Customize your snail with gear, weapons, and decorations. Level up. Get better. Keep coming back.
Easy to pick up. Surprisingly deep once you find your groove.
Why This Fits RocketSnail
Every project we take on starts with the same question: can this delight people?
Battle Snails has delighted people since the first time anyone picked up a controller and realized they could shoot someone from the ceiling. That laugh — that moment of surprise and joy — is what we’re always chasing.
Small team. Clear vision. Built for fun.
That’s what this is.
